Took my carry on with lousy excuse!

Tried to check in by internet within the 24 hr. prior to flight. Called Air Tran. On hold over 1/2 hr. Got contact, put on hold again... over another 1/2 hr. Yep, they'll fix it... put on hold & hung up on. CAlled AGAIN... Finally woman told me I couldn't do it because I had used a 'travel agency' to book my flight! Called travel agency. She finally got them to fix their problem for printout. Wasted most of day trying to check in. Told by Air Tran I had to be at airport 2 hrs before flight. Flight scheduled for 6:05a.m. I asked if airport was even open at 4 a.m... she said no, but be there anyway. TOTAL *** & ***!! I arrived at gate to board flight 1/2 hr before flight. My carryon has ALWAYS fit easily underneath the seat. All my meds & boarding pass for continuing flight were in my carryon. Carryon was taken from me because it "wouldn't fit under the seat". I told them that it has ALWAYS fit easily under the seat. Head stewardess put herself right in my face ( within 12 inches of my face!), put a smug smile on her face & said that it would be a trip hazzard, whereby the carryon was taken from me... refusing to listen to anything else. Of course, I was tripped THREE TIMES by the long legged men with their legs out into the isles because the seats were so crunched together that there was NO LEG ROOM for their long legs! Of course the under seat area for my seat had more than enough room for the carryon. Instead of having my carry on there, I had the two 6 footer guys on either side of me filling that underseat area of MY space. NASTY, INSULTING, RUDE, I will NEVER use Air Tran Airlines & recommend no one else over 5'2" to use them... with the understanding that you have NO rights and will be totally insulted & inconvenienced by their staff!

AirTran Airlines

I booked my travel online and received E-confirmation of my ticket. Along with it came a "baggage fee" chart, to assist in having the knowledge prior to what bags may cost. Long story short, I flew home from Orlando on AirTran. When I went to check my bag, I was told it was too tall. Ok, so I then consult my "baggage chart" that I had printed and brought along with me. Well, according to it, I would be charged $49 dollars for the oversized bag. However, I was informed that I would have to pay not only $49 for the big bag but also an additional $20 just to check it. I disputed the clerk's claim stating that my documentation did not anywhere suggest that fees would be cumulative and even showed her the chart. It was to no avail however. I was forced to pay the fee to get my suitcase home and followed up with the complaint department through the airline. Sadly, this department couldn't appreciate their own deception of consumers which only further reiterated that it must be intentional. In the final analysis, AirTran is by far the least professional and clearly competent airline out there and they really should consider shutting down entirely for the good of every consumer out there!

When you selected the flight, you should have read the contract of carriage regarding your bag. You didn't get reimbursed b/c you don't read.

The first checked bag is $20 and the second is $25, but if you have an oversized/overweight bag, there is an additional fee. Next time, be a smart traveler and read

Let me also add to my commentary that along with the unscruptulous policies regarding baggage, the airline attendants were highly unprofessional and threatening. It was like being part of the actual "Airplane" movie.

Airtran airlines

Very disappointed with todays service. It's a very uncomfortable feeling to sit at the gate for hours feeling I just been ripped off. I payed over $300 for a flight that was over sold, an issue that makes this airline possibly the worst airline in the history of airlines. You guys expect us to not only pay for the ticket but the seat as well? That's ridiculous...!! Thanks to airtran piece of *** airlines, I'll be missing my best friends wedding. Thank you very *** much guys, job well done...!! And to top it all of, not one *** employee can help the situation..

I will be flying on Airtran for the first time today. If this "Airline Employee" that is responding to every complaint that I have read is really an airline employee then AirTran needs to train their employees in customer service. They better realize just who pays their salary and cut the sarcastic attitude!

Had you checked in on time, you would have not been bumped off the flight. Next, time refer to the contract of carriage when you click "purchase," every airline oversells flights, get used to it honey!

Air Tran unreliable

Air Tran does not stand behind their promises. I am a veteran traveler of over 30 years on business. I missed my connecting flight at 1 AM because of weather. Air tran left me sitting on the plane on the runway for over 1.5 hours with out anything by water. All of this I can deal with. This has happened many times in my career but never have I had an airline refuse to credit me for the cost of interrupted travel. I was told if I rented a car and drove myself, Air Tran would allow credit for the missed flight and reimburse me the extra cost of the rental car. SO off I went to drive myself 5.5 hours in the rain from 1 am to 6 am. However, 2 weeks later the story changed. No flight credit would be given. Furthermore "Customer Relations" tried to convince me I was not out of pocket any expense ! Air Tran now feels by paying for the rental car, they did their duty of "getting me to my destination". But I had paid for a flight to get me there as well. NO credit for the cost of the flight I paid. Furthermore, the agent treated me indignantly , repeatedly saying I was not "out of pocket" anything. HA ! Pay for 2 modes of transport and get one reimbursed doesn't leave a balance of the other? NOT by Air Tran MATH. Why don't they just say "We Don't Pay for Travel Interrupted by Weather" NEVER will I choose or recommend AIRTRAN to anyone. As owner of this business, I have told my assistant to drop our them from our corporate travel plans.

Airtran airway, biggest crooks in the air

I bookeed my tickets online and was not aware that they would charge me for baggage...I never had to do this before, so I paid for it anyway no big deal $20. So then they told me that they would have to measure the bag and that if it was over 61" that I would have to pay...are you kidding me??? ok go ahead I told him and it turns out that the bag was 62" and that they would have to charge me $50!! are you kidding mew over one inch they wanted $50 and the supervisor said that they couldnt do anything about it even though i had my whole family flying, 9 tickets and they didn't want to let one inch slide, losers wont ever fly with air tran again!

You are allowed to bring a carry-on and a person item on the plane for free. If you check a bag, there is a fee.

Yes, Southwest does not charge for bags....but have you ever heard of the phrase, "There is no such thing as a free lunch?" Well, the bags are free because they rank #1 in losing your bags! Next, time read the airline's contract of carriage when you confirm the flight, you are also advised of the fees when you check in online.

Avoid AirTran Vacations!!!!

When recently purchasing a trip on AirTran Vacations I ran into several problems, after I purchased. First you CANNOT purchase insurance for your trip through AirTran Vacations, not even for the airfare part of the trip, even though it is available if you purchase directly from AirTran. Secondly, when I called to cancel the hotel part of the trip, since they do bill you separately for the hotel (2 charges on your credit card) I was told that I had to cancel the entire trip in order to cancel the hotel. Which would add a $75 fee or each person (2) on our airline ticket for both ways, plus $75 to cancel the hotel. $375 to cancel????? AirTran Vacations Needs to change it's policies. AVOID AirTran Vacations!!!!!

Flight change would cost more then original cost of ticket

We made reservations for our daughter 2fly to Missouri for her cousins wedding. We always purchase flight insurance on all trips BUT for this airline this is a joke. We tried changing her flight 2 leave 2 days earlier thinking there would only be a $75 change fee, little did we know that they have in small writing this exclusion "*All AirTran Airways coach tickets are non-refundable and a $75 fee per person applies to any change made after purchase, plus any applicable increase in airfare." the plus meaning whatever the airfare is the day you go to change the flight. I have never had any problems with any airline. Yes I understand there are rules but after already paying $323.29 this airline wanted an additional $351 for a change in the date. The flight had many seats available but that doesn't make any difference this airline is out to make a quick buck at the expense of the consumer. This isn't the first time we flew with this airline, last Oct we used Airtran and they canceled our flight on us. They accommodated us by putting us in 1st class if that's what they wanna call it. I agree with other comments that the flight attendants are loud, annoying with constant chatting and were NOT friendly at all. If ever I had to fly to Missouri again I would NOT use this airlines. So pls read the fine print when you book with this airline!

Plane left early without me.

After checking in early and selecting a seat online they first tried to charge me extra for a regular isle seat. I had to call them and get the extra charges removed. I checked my bags and went down toward the terminal. I was about an hour early so I went and grabbed a sandwich. My boarding pass said departure time was at 7:33 pm but you need to show them the pass 10 minutes prior to departure. At 7:20 I went back to the terminal and the plane was loaded doors were closed. Someone at the desk called down to the plane but they decided to just let me miss the flight. I was then talked to like I was a child as they kept trying to point out the 10 minutes prior to departure on my stub and I kept trying to tell this *** that I was there 10 minutes prior and the plane boarded and departed early. The attitude of the personnel was poor I could see all they cared about was going home. Today I'm on standby apparently I'm lucky to get that. I was told since I used expedia that they didn't even have to offer me that. I'll be filing a formal complaint with the BBB and expedia.

Airtran= BOGUS service.

I booked a flight on line with the big corporate, sucker 'em, their just numbers airline. Their website, (no doubt written by outsourced developers), made an error I noticed when I checked the confirmation email just a little later. I called them about it and the customer service was 'it's your fault' all the way and insisted there would be a $75 charge to change the flight. Like AT&T, I will never, never, never deal with these people again. Anyway this company can squeeze extra money from you, they will. That's called bloodsucking. That's called 'oops we made a mistake but you can pay for it.' Listen to their BS about changing a flight on the phone if you don't believe me.

:? Ok, honesty.

Airtran gave in and gave me my fair at the original price. But should it take so much wear and tear on a person. Is spending 2 hours in the middle of the night worth this?

Is this intentional? :?

Fly with anyone but Airtran

I will never spend another dime on Airtran. Due to their incompentance, a flight ended up costing me over $800 + lost time at work. Their customer service is a complete joke. They are uneducated, rude and have no idea how to do anything but read from a script. Their answer to everything is 'oh well, it was weather, sorry, or contract doesn't require us to care' Not only are they rude, but they are also liars. We were told the hotel voucher was for a free stay, wrong, it was for a small discount. Which then of course required cab fare and extra money spent on parking at our originating airport. Their compensation is to issue a $50 credit towards the next flight, like I would ever spend another dime to travel with them. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and my advice to everyone is to avoid Airtran at all cost. Do not fly with them, if anything goes wrong, you'll be treated like you are less than human.

Unacceptable Business Practices

I purchased my 16 year old daughter a flight to come visit me in Fort Lauderdale from Atlanta (April 2nd @ 2:35pm). No where on Airtran's website does it state that if you purchase a ticket without seat selection, she would be considered to be standby. With that said, her mother dropped her off at the airport and went back home because she is always refused a gate pass. Not only do I have to listen to my daughter panick because she was told she cannot get on the flight nor any other flight today, she was offered a hotel room and to fly out tomorrow. What type of training are you providing your employees? Do you really think a 16 year old wants to be alone in a hotel room? Do you know the liability Airtran is placing on themselves if anything happens to a child? I was told at the gate by Michelle to contact a supervisor in your reservations desk because they have more power to get her a seat. I did as instructed and I had to listen to a speech by the reservations representative about how all airlines over book their flights to cover for no shows and cancellations and if I didn't pay for the seat, she would fly standby. Since this is spring break, her chances of getting on a flight was slim. Is this what a father that's a few hundred miles away wants to hear about his child? He finally put on Jackie, a supervisor, in the call center. Jackie tells me that the gate agent has more power than she does. After going on back and forth, she finally called me back and told me that she has a seat assigned and to tell her to board. This was 3 minutes prior to the flight departing and the gate was now closed and my daughter was sitting there crying because she didn't know what to do. Next, I contact reservations again and asked for Jackie. Well of course I reached another of the 3 call centers you have available to answer calls. After hearing the speech again about how all airlines over book in order to cover for no shows and cancellations, I lost it. I told her to put a supervisor on the phone immediately. She transfers me to Bill and he tried to tell me his hands are tied and there's nothing he can do. After spending almost half an hour on the phone with him, he finally squeezed her in on the 11:05pm flight, but it's not guaranteed. I told him if my daughter is left in that airport all alone over night, I would seek legal action against Airtran. My daughter is now sitting at the airport hoping she will make it on a flight tonight. I don't care what training Airtran provides, I have NEVER experienced such poor customer service or business practices on JetBlue. I can book a seat for free or if I go to the airport, I'm ALWAYS guaranteed a seat. Also, if for any reason I give up my spot, I'm issued a free round trip ticket for future use. I was never offered that in this case and I'm stuck with no guarantee my daughter will make it tonight. I will NEVER fly with Airtran again and would love a to see a class action lawsuit for everyone that has paid full price for a ticket, but was bumped because Airtran decides to over book their flights.

No, actually, paying for a confirmed seat DOES NOT guarantee you a seat. I just flew Air Tran this weekend.

I checked in at 4:30 for a 6:45 flight from Orlando to Atlanta, connecting to Milwaukee. Both flights were Air Tran. They knew I was coming, and that there was only 45 minutes in between when the first plane would land, and the second would ***. After I got off the plane, I immediately went to the gate to get my seat- it was only 4 gates down.

They were already boarding the plane, and only one rep was there taking boarding passes. I waited patiently in line because I hadn't gotten my boarding pass. Well, when this lazy rep finally helped me, she told me the flight was oversold. I told her that I paid for confirmed seating.

They lied to me and tried to tell me that I hadn't. I called Air Tran customer service, and they confirmed I had paid for reserved seating- I was flying with my 7 year-old son, and needed to sit next to him. Well, they still gave my seat away 25 minutes before the plane was scheduled to ***. The supervisor did nothing- even when I told him that I had confirmed seating, he said really in a shocked tome of voice.

Then, the rep tried to lie and say I didn't pay for it. The rep I called from customer service told me they violated their own policy- if you aren't at the gate 10 minutes before your flight, then they can bump you. Not to mention, the rep at the desk was extremely rude to me, yelled at me, and acted as though the fate of me getting back to Wisconsin was all up to her. They put me on their next flight, and bumped several people from that flight as well, tto.

COmpletely unacceptable- I paid extra for my seats to make sure I could sit where they promised me, and they just gave them away. I am so frustrated with the way I was treated, and I would love to see someone hold them accountable.

Thank you catty1234. The person that said Really?

is obviously an employee. He/she sounds like the customer service rep from AirTran. I have purchased through Airtran several times and never experienced being bumped. If you purchase a ticket, you purchase the seat to guarantee the seat.

No where does it state you are purchasing standby if you don't pay for the seat. Who would fly that way? Once again, JetBlue doesn't charge for the first bag or the seat.

I'd rather get true pricing from the beginning than doing everything a la carte. Customer service is being compromised for a few dollars.

#305801

Obviously Comment 1 was by an employee or passenger that "drinks the corporate kool-aid". I travel weekly as I have done for over 30 years.

No it is NOT he mother's fault. Airlines know when they have children on board and NORMAL airlines go above the call of duty to be sure they are safe and calm. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE on the part of AIR TRAN.

And paying to reserve a seat IS NOT standard in the industry. It defeats the validity fare comparisions, which is of course why they do it.

Anonymous
#297211

I fly Air Tran often and have had excellent customer service. When I book my seat, I also book my seat.

Yes, it sucks that it costs $20 (I last flew in Dec. 2010) for each leg, but that is a small price to pay for a guarantee seat on the plane. I have been doing this for years; I fly to FL from DC every December for the last 6 years. Knowing that your young daughter is flying during Spring Break (to FL no doubt!), I am surprised that you DID NOT book her seat.

That doesn't make sense to me. I assume you are educated and have flown several times. How you did not know of the overbooking process befuddles me, and as her dad, why you just didn't get her seat, that too does not make sense. If you can't get a seat, you better find out why.

But from what you have written, you "chose" not to. Weird. Why didn't her mother make sure she got checked in? She can't get through security without a boarding pass, and it would have read "stand by" when it was issued.

I feel sorry for your daughter; you perpetuated the mess. This is not AirTran's fault.

As the parent and adult, you have known better. I say shame on you.

Rude Airline Personnel

I get that bad weather causes travel delays. Do AirTran employees really need to treat the customer as the enemy as we request our luggage while stranded in Atlanta? A little kindness, understanding and sympathetic customer service goes a long way. A nice cup of hot coffee in the 13 hours I waited for my luggage would have overwhelmed me and kept me a faithful AirTran customer. I see now this airline is frankly no better or worse than any other airline out there. I will no longer seek Airtran flights over any other airline in the future. I used to prefer this airline...no any longer.

Credit Card Scam @ Airport

AirTran-Barclay Bank credit Card scam resulting in collection agency harassing me continually. Please spread this scam.. traveler beware at airports.. Airtran Airways/Barclays Bank Delaware are claiming I owe them $192.79 ($100+interest). I have tried numerous times in phone conversations with them and their collection agent,to explain that I never applied for a credit card with Barclays Bank, therefore, I have never charged anything to this fictional account. Researching internet I found history on this Scam. This fraudulent activity by Airtran Airways/Barclays Bank has been going on for several years as verified by numerous Scam sites. Please pass the word to travelers to beware at Airports when a young person approaches you to take a benign survey in exchange for a FREE magazine subcription from AirTran....all is a lie and they will say you signed a Barchay Bank credit call and now own them $100 plus interest if you had not paid on time. You never receive a credit card or magazines...how do they get away with this fraud over and over again...thanks for any helping spread this warning to travelers. The collection agent has now written me that I own $192.00 and if I don't pay immediately they will send the debt to the credit rating companies that will tarnish my credit. Thanks for helping get the word out there. Laurrie Buckley @ onebuck01@***.com

Yeah those weasels got me to. I thought I was just signing up for a frequent mile card to gain points, plus it's very deceiving because they wear airtran attire, acting if they are apart of the company.

But really they work for Barclay. I signed the no annual fee one. But they still send me bills in the mail every month for 20-40 dollars. I have never recieved their credit card nor ever used one, but I'm paying 20-40 dollars a month for nothing.

Complete scam and if you don't pay they'll ruin your credit rating. That's how they get you, really all they are is crooks.

Hey as well...please tell anyone that might be a little vunerable to these weasles that airtran has in their terminals hawking these cards: they will step away from their tables and focus on an older person, I have watched this. And they will say "Sir (or ma'am) are you flying airtran today?" "sucker" answers:

"Yes" and weasels reply "Step over here one minute I have some very important info for you. Let me get your info really quickly and I can tell you what is happening with your flight!"

They do this at a time when a lot of flights are running late. They appear to be legitmate airline staff member. I watch older people get suckered in all the time. If I am not running late I always step in and say "Sir, did you realize they are trying to get you set up for a credit card?" And then try to help get them pulled away if indicate they didn't want a credit card.

Just FYI

Worst Flying Experience Ever!!

AirTran Airways - Worst Flying Experience Ever!!
AirTran Airways - Worst Flying Experience Ever!!
I recently had the worst flying experience ever flying out of Charlotte to Tunica on Airtran, all on my 30th B-day! After the front desk agents told me it was ok to carry my bag on the plane w/o checking it and then making it through a full body scan at security, a gate agent singled my bag out of a crowd while I was sitting down in front of my respective gate about an hour and a half before my plane was to ***, so that he could measure the dimensions of it. I happily obliged with no problems because I traveled with th, it was one inch to big and demanded that I pay $20 baggage fee or leave bag as an unattended bag so that the airport could throw it away. I advised the gate agent that I had just bought my ticket less than 24hrs ago as a last minute decision to spend my 30th birthday with my family and also thanksgiving and asked if there was someone else I could speak to. He refused sayin that he was the supervisor and that I would have to pay $20 or leave the bag. I tried to tied the bungee cord on top of my bag as tight as possible so I could shrink it an inch and that still didn't work for him. He started boarding the plane, minus me and refused to let me board without meeting his conditions. I got very upset and put my boarding pass on his podium and proceeded to walk through the airplan tunnel anyway. He grabbed my bag saying that I was breaching security and noted my reservation like I was some type of terrorist which I can assure you I am not! By that time, another gate agent came over to find out what the problem was. She measured my bag and put a yellow oversize carry on bag tag on my bag so that I could just take the bag and not check it with a fee but he refused to let me board. He told her that I was not getting on unless I paid the $20 fee. Needless to say, the only plane going to Tunica, MS that I bought my ticket for left without me on my 30th Birthday. I was distraught and upset and crying and embarrassed and humiliated. It was the worst flying experience ever. I had to wait 4 hrs for an Operation Manager to come in and read the gate agents terrosirt notes and ask me did I try to walk on through the security door to the plane and I told him yes. He asked me in retrospect do I think that was the best thing to do in the situation and wouldn't have been easier to try and work with the gate agent? I explained that I had begged, and cried, and pleaded with him for an hour and that no it did not help the situation. The operations manager looked at my bag and was startled to see that it already had a yellow check tag on it and that I could have boarded the plane with that but I explained the lady gate agent did this and the guy gate agent still refused to let me board. So the gate agent never apologized, the manager didn't either. He finally put me on a flight to Memphis, TN, 40 miles away from my original destination through US Airways but flew my bag on expedited service on Airtran! Go figure!! I still can't believe I got treated like this over a $20 baggage fee and my bag being an inch over!!

Air Tran bucking responsibility for rebooking fees

Due to a simple clerical error, my husband booked the wrong date on a flight for our four family members to Ft. Lauderdale. By the time the error was discovered, it was one and a half months later. With the $75 rebooking fee and change in ticket price, this was a monumental and expensive mistake. Do the airlines really get that much out of milking the public to hurt us with these outrageous fees? I can see dinging the traveling business person with a fee for change of convenience, but I will never book with Air Tran and their policies.
